The Commissioners filled us in on the history of the park district (established in 1958), sprinkling in a few colorful details. Currently, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) are not permitted under a Town Board moratorium lasting through April 11, 2025, but could provide an alternative energy source in the future. Below is a Suffolk Times article on the recent development of draft recommendations for regulating BESS.
